What does “barrier-friendly” actually mean?

Your skin barrier is the outer layer that locks in hydration and blocks irritants. Our Barrier-Friendly Formula® (BFF) blends ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid to keep it strong and balanced.

Can I use this everyday?

Yes, it's formulated to be gentle enough for daily use, so it becomes a staple in your routine. But all skin is different! If your skin is extra sensitive, try applying every other day to start and build to daily use if your skin stays comfortable.

Why do I need a toner?

Some toners lean all the way into hydration, other toners focus on intense exfoliation. Clear Intentions brings balance with skin barrier-supporting hydrators and gentle actives that clear congestion and build-up without stripping the skin. Choose this to promote glowing skin, support clear skin or balance oil and congestion.

What skin type is this best for?

An essential step for developing, sensitive skin, formulated to hydrate and rebalance no matter what your skin is going through. If you have dry skin, it gently exfoliates to create a smoother canvas so your moisturizer and other products can work more effectively. If you have oily or congestion-prone skin, you’ll love the balance it brings back to skin. Plus it’s non-comedogenic, so it won't clog pores.

What age is this toner for?

Clear Intentions Essential Toner is designed for ages 13 and up. It's made for younger skin that's starting to experience excess oil, congestion, and the occasional breakout, with a hydrating, gentle, barrier-supporting formula designed by our medical advisory board of dermatologists. 

Is this safe for my younger teen or tween?
  • 13 is our recommended starting age, but everyone's skin develops differently. Some notice oil and congestion as early as 10 or 11, and our medical advisory board designed the low salicylic acid level (0.25%, below the typical 1-2% range) to be gentle and appropriate for younger skin already going through these changes.
  • Here’s what the pediatric dermatologist on our medical advisory board, Dr. Robin Schaffran has to say: "Salicylic acid, when used at the right low concentration, helps to gently exfoliate, regulate sebum production, and reduce inflammation without being too drying or irritating. The Clear Intentions Essential Toner's barrier-friendly formula includes niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and ceramides to hydrate and protect the skin, plus inulin, a prebiotic from chicory root that reduces the risk of irritation."
  • If your child is 10–12 and curious about trying it, we recommend starting with a patch test, then introducing it slowly (every other day, with your supervision) and only building up frequency if their skin stays comfortable. When in doubt, consult a dermatologist or pediatrician.
How do I patch test?

Apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and wait a minimum of a few hours, checking for redness, itching, or irritation. If you have very sensitive skin, we recommend repeating a patch test over several days. If skin stays comfortable, introduce it to your face starting every other day. If you notice any irritation, pause use and check in with a dermatologist or pediatrician.
